The Philosophy Research Laboratory on Sciences, Technology and Culture (EFEETP) of the Department of Philosophy, University of Ioannina, in association with the Centre for Digital Studies of the Department of Sociology, NKUA and the Department of History of Ionian University, is delighted to welcome you to the 2nd International Conference on “Politics of Technologies in the Digital Age”.

The central topic of the 2024 Conference is “The Digital Transformation of the Public Sphere” initially inspired by Jürgen Habermas’ 2022 book on A New Structural Transformation of the Public Sphere and Deliberative Politics. In recent decades, the public sphere has undergone a profound transformation, driven by the digital revolution. Digital technologies have redefined how information is disseminated, how social movements are organized, and how political activism is conducted. The advent of social media, hashtag activism, digital deliberative democracy, and the overall platformization of societal practices have significantly impacted civic identity, political agency, public decision-making, and the formation of public opinion.

The conference aims to explore the intricate dynamics between digital technologies and the public sphere, focusing on four key areas: public communication, opinion-shaping, political praxis, and the intersection of platform capitalism with behavioral manipulation. We invite scholars from diverse disciplines to contribute to this critical exploration.

Our goal is to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue that critically examines the epistemological, ethical, sociopolitical, socio-economic, and psychological dimensions of the digital transformation of the political public sphere.

Join us in this important conversation as we navigate the complexities of our digital future. The conference will take place at the “Karolos Papoulias” Conference Centre of the University of Ioannina.
